Cats from 311 Squadron
Could ordinary cats intervene in World War II dogfights? Of course they could! And even fundamentally!
The hangars in Honington are the base of Czechoslovak airmen fighting in England against Germany, but also the home of two cats, Čertina and Božka. The two animals live quite peacefully in the company of their human friends until two intruders, German rats Helmut and Jürgen, appear at the airport. They are evil, fanatical, albeit somewhat funny and stupid admirers of the German leader Hitler. Their dream is to build a large army and harm enemy airmen. Therefore, neutralizing the expanding rats is a matter of honor for cats! In the fight against rats, they do not hesitate to join forces with their ancient rivals, dogs. A big battle is coming. Humor and tension guaranteed!
Dalibor Vácha, author of historical novels thematizing mainly the two world wars (novels Vlasta, Vilda, Death on the bark, M + B + M), wrote his first children's book.
"Cooing pigeons, crazy rats, of a stupid mouse, threatened aircraft, conversations with dogs and chickens, ...a mangy hedgehog, who's trying to form an allied coalition to protect the airport. All this was a lot for two barely grown kittens. The book runs like clockwork. It shows the author's love and respect for our airmen in England, yet it is playful and entertaining. Bozka and Čertina may be behind their ears, but they won't get anything for free and the reader (big or small) will be left wondering what plan they will come up with against the rat coalition and whether it will work. In short, Cats are fun and at the same time show children in a non-violent way how things worked on air bases." - from reader feedback on Databazeknih.cz
