Cars and motorcycles with engine Wankel
The circular piston engine designed by Felix Wankel was first started up in the NSU development workshops on 1 January 1957. It was not presented to the press and the professional public until three years later at the Deutsches Museum in Munich. The professional world was enthusiastic, the Wankel engine was hailed as the engine of the future, and at first everything pointed to this. Car companies and other internal combustion engine manufacturers frantically bought licenses and began working on their own development of the Wankel engine. However, as the problems mounted, they gradually fell away until Mazda of Japan itself was left producing Wankel-powered cars until 2012. While the predicted global success did not materialise, the Wankel engine has not yet had its last word. This book is about its history and the life of its creator, Felix Wankel.
