Brotherhood of the Secret Graves
Criminal Cases That Shocked the Nation
Since 1988, Colonel Valerián has specialised in violent crime, particularly murders committed in the North Moravia region. However, some of his cases have garnered nationwide media attention – either due to the extraordinary brutality of the perpetrators (several prisoners sentenced to life are on Valerián's record), or due to the mobility of criminals who had previously murdered in other parts of the country.
This book of Colonel Valerián's stories and memories covers twenty different cases, organised into thematic chapters. The recurring theme running through them is the career and professional rise of a detective, from a typical beginner assisting experienced colleagues, through his first major case, to leading the 'murder squad'. Given the narrator's profession and his life experiences, the book has an exclusive character. For instance, Valerián's personal experiences with various types of murderers, with whom he spent many hours during preliminary proceedings, are exceptionally interesting.
