Božena Němcová: The Good Man

In his story, Němcová calls the "great Czech charioteer", Pantate Hájek, a good man, and draws his character to complement the other persons in the story, which engagingly and truthfully depicts the life of the Viennese Czechs. The transitions from setting to setting, the convincing distribution of lights and shadows, the beauty of the language - these are the strengths of the narrative, in which Němcová clearly demonstrates the magic of her storytelling art and her deep sense of human joy and sorrow.
