Bosorky
Polish writer Agnieszka Szpil's novel Bosorka may strike many as a revelation. The frankness and anger with which she writes, as well as a certain amount of insolence that is characteristic of her, may derail some people. However, the fact that it was among the twenty books nominated for the prestigious NIKE literary award in 2022 shows that at least Polish critics and a significant number of Polish readers were interested in the novel. Two stories - one from the present day, the other from the Middle Ages - intertwine through the book. Both feature strong female characters: Anna Shibner, the CEO of a large company, and Mathilde Spalt, called the Earthwoman, who spreads the doctrine of the Old Man. Bosorky is a feminist manifesto proclaiming the need for radical change and a new sexuality. Nobel Prize winner Olga Tokarczuk called the work a torpedo book.
