Bodies in the dark
The novel Body in the Dark tears apart the themes of identity, corporeality and desire. The narrator, a young writer nicknamed Hank, faces a cruel blow from fate: an illness has taken his manhood. After an operation that leaves him unable to have sexual intercourse, he finds himself in an empty, liminal space. His relationship with his partner Sára is transformed, her daughter Tea is experiencing her first loves, and he himself is grappling with the painful withering of his former self. He finds refuge in writing, in which he obsessively explores the very thing he has lost – sexuality.
Body in the Dark is a descent into the self, where pain, beauty and desire fight for every scrap of light.
