Detective Fin Macleod returns to the Scottish Isle of Lewis to clear his son's name.

The Isle of Lewis has once again become a crime scene. In a bay on the west coast, the body of eighteen-year-old TV starlet Caitlin is found, immediately raising several questions: What was she doing there? What could have happened to her? One thing is certain—as a skilled swimmer and canoeist, she probably didn't drown. All evidence suggests she was killed to be silenced.
Detective Fin Macleod left the island ten years ago to escape painful memories. When he learns that his married son, Fionnlagh, was having a secret affair with the dead girl and is now a suspect in her murder, he must return to the island to help clear his name. But nothing is as it seems, and the truth about the dead girl lies in a past that Fin would rather forget.

Quote 1

What they wrote about the book:

Blacklight Blue contains all the elements that have earned May literary acclaim: a likeable but deeply flawed protagonist, a plot centred on an island for which May clearly has a strong affinity, and a narrative that slowly but surely unfolds through inevitable twists and red herrings.

Quote 1

While this is a chilling and suspenseful crime thriller, Peter May writes in a beautiful style and brilliantly evokes a sense of place. The stunning Scottish landscape, captured in the book, plays a prominent role, making the setting as important as the characters or the plot.

Peter May

Born in Glasgow. He originally worked as a journalist. When he published his first novel, The Reporter (1978), at the age of twenty-seven, he was asked to rewrite it as a script for a BBC series. Since then, he has dedicated himself to television work. He is one of the most successful and prolific television screenwriters. He has over a thousand credits to his name, including the series The Standard and Machair. He also writes novels. His six-part series of 'China thrillers', featuring the duo of a young Chinese detective, Li Yan, and an American forensic pathologist, Margaret Campbell, which draws on the differences between two distinct cultures, earned him worldwide renown. The Blackhouse, the first of a trilogy set in May's native Scotland, was first published in France in 2009, and in Great Britain less than two years later. After its release in September 2011, it spent eight weeks on the British bestseller chart, was featured in the prestigious Richard and Judy Book Club, won the poll for the most popular book of autumn 2011, and the BBC is planning to make a film version. In September 2012, the second instalment, The Lewis Man, was released, followed in January 2013 by the final part of the trilogy, The Chessmen. Both books have remained on the charts and have been enthusiastically received by the world press, with rave reviews full of superlatives appearing in the most prestigious newspapers and their literary supplements.
