A collection of six detective stories, first published in 1969. Each of the stories has its own plot, but they are all connected by a highly unusual detective duo, police lieutenant Vasátko and the recently released from prison painter Horác, known from the previous detective story The Moon with a Pipe. It is followed by the first two stories, which reveal what happened after the case was closed. The return to the past also takes place in the last short story, in which Vasátko again deals with a murder from the 1950s. In addition to the masterful exposition of the detective plots, the author also excels in capturing the psychology of the characters and in her almost Forman-like precision in portraying the "little man". Although some time has passed since this book was written, when we listen to it, we realize that human passions, problems, desires and ambitions are still the same, even though they're set in an older setting.
