Before the storm
Every apocalypse needs its rats
Stories don't usually begin with the end of the world. But on Ler, the world comes to an end every seven days when a magical storm sweeps through, flattening everything outside the protective barriers. Because when you knock the gods out of the sky, you have to reckon with the consequences. The gods fell eighty years ago. And their fall left Ler scarred and largely - outside the protective barriers - uninhabitable. Magically contaminated soil, mutations or the absence of surface water are not uncommon. Outside the city, even one badly charged battery cell can mean the difference between life and death. But not all of them have been able to accept this, and so they are looking for ways to outwit the laws of nature and man - like rats, they are looking for loopholes in which to survive. But what if some people start to realize that there is a gap between surviving and living? Let alone when the gods themselves realize it...
