Faroe Islands Trilogy #2
BLOOD IN THE WATER. AND A DEAD WOMAN FOUND ON A BEACH. A NEW CASE FOR JAN REYNA.
A group of anti-whaling activists arrives in the Faroe Islands, and the tension between the locals and the protesters is so thick you could cut it with a knife. Just a few hours after one particularly heated altercation, a woman's body is discovered, and the circumstances of the murder suggest that someone is trying to deepen the rift between the two camps even further.
Police officer Hjalti Hentze starts the investigation, but the situation quickly becomes significantly more complicated when suspicion falls on his son-in-law. It appears that there are other, more sinister motives behind the murder, and a key piece of evidence is missing. Meanwhile, British Inspector Jan Reyna is trying to find out more about his mother's past, but like Hentze, he encounters one obstacle after another.
Neither of them knows who they can trust or how far some people are willing to go in the name of their convictions…
CHRIS OULD
Chris Ould held a variety of jobs in his life, from ice cream vendor to labourer, before publishing his first two novels, A Kind of Sleep and Road Lines, in the late 1980s.
He then spent many years working for television – as a screenwriter, he contributed to series such as Soldier, Soldier, Casualty, Hornblower and The Bill, for which he won a prestigious award from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts.
He returned to literature in 2012 with a pair of young adult detective novels, Knock Down and The Killing Street. However, it was the three crime thrillers set in the Faroe Islands (The Blood Strand, The Killing Bay, The Fire Pit), featuring detective Jan Reyna, that made him famous. Chris Ould lives with his wife and son in Dorset, where, among other things, he raises sheep and tweets at @WriterChrisOuld.
