As a boy, I would have been shot
In the radio series Fates, we meet Jaroslava Skleničková, née Suchánková, who in June 1942, as a newly 16-year-old girl from Lidice, was officially recognized as an adult woman and, after the village was liquidated by the Nazis in retaliation for the death of Protector Heydrich, was sent with her mother, older sister and other Lidice women to the Ravensbrück concentration camp. Jaroslava Skleničková gives a factual yet moving testimony about her childhood, the moment of parting with her father and her native village, her three-year stay in Ravensbrück, her participation in the Death March, her return to Czechoslovakia and her post-war life up to the present day. Fates brings the story as you will find it in the book with the added value of the power of Jaroslava Skleničková's authentic narration.
The programme was prepared by Tomáš Černý.
