Artificial intelligence as a (new) medium

The collective monograph *Artificial Intelligence as a (New) Medium* analyses the impact of so-called artificial intelligence (both analytical and generative) on contemporary culture, from high culture to the everyday. It examines how the ways of creating, understanding, and using images, sounds, and texts are changing in today's world, as well as the broader social and political implications of these changes. Its focus is on the processes and practices of creativity, imagination, and ingenuity. It refuses to interpret them through simplistic dichotomies between the human and the technical, instead emphasising their interconnectedness and the importance of specific historical bio-socio-technical configurations that define the forms of our subjectivity and community. The authors (Tomáš Dvořák, Martin Flašar, Vít Gvoždiak, Vladimír Havlík, Jana Horáková, Martin Charvát, Veronika Klusáková, Richard Müller, Noemi Purkrábková, Kateřina Svatoňová) present essentially interdisciplinary probes into the field of synthetic media, drawing from the fields of literary, music and film studies, philosophy and epistemology, media and communication theory, and digital culture and art theory. Their studies focus, among other things, on the representation of artificial intelligence in film and television, composite photography, multimedia performances, machine vision and pattern recognition, generative curatorship, generative music, and the linguistic and literary competences of large language models.
