Antibiotics in primary care

Infectious diseases are a common cause of morbidity in general practitioners' offices across the entire age spectrum. If they are of bacterial origin, then antibiotics can be used for treatment. Given the increasing resistance of bacterial pathogens to antibiotics not only in hospitals but also in the community, it is necessary to know both these mechanisms and the principles of antibiotic therapy. " Using antibiotics" " for sure" or out of diagnostic embarrassment is a gross error and can significantly harm the patient. Especially in childhood, every use of antibiotics needs to be carefully considered, as interventions in the intestinal microbiome in childhood have far-reaching impacts and influence the development of idiopathic intestinal inflammation, obesity, and diabetes mellitus.

The book provides a description of the basic groups of antibiotics that can be used in primary care, along with an overview of resistance. A separate chapter is devoted to laboratory diagnostics of the most common infectious diseases in a general practitioner' s office. The most common infections are also listed according to systems, where the etiology of individual nosological units is always described, laboratory tests and appropriate therapy are recommended. The book is designed as a guide for everyday practice, i. e. Clear text and accompanying tables are part of each chapter.

The book is intended primarily for general practitioners for children and adolescents and for general practitioners for adults.
