Anchors in the sky

Rémi Brague leads us to reject the idea that modern man, living in a "post-metaphysical" age, which is the cultural heritage of the Enlightenment, does not need metaphysics. He's trying to show, that metaphysics is not a vague "superstructure" resting on a single real foundation, available in the form of a reality cognized by the sciences, but is necessary for it, to consider life as good and not only want to live it, but also to pass it on. For contemporary humanity, which can easily annihilate itself as a species, only an awareness of the powerful metaphysical dimension of human life can ensure that a future will open up before it.
