An Ominous Spring
Cases Born in the Thaw
Just as with the previous short story collections, 'Midwinter Murder' and 'Midsummer Mysteries', the leitmotif of this collection is the season in which the famous investigators' cases take place... Nature awakens from its winter slumber, freezing weather gives way to rain showers, and everything slowly begins to sprout—which unfortunately applies to crimes of all kinds as well. Hercule Poirot, Miss Marple, Tommy and Tuppence, and other heroes of Agatha Christie must face murderous conspiracies, robbery plots, and terrifying nightmares during this season. The author herself shares a memory of her own in the introduction.
Agatha Christie
British writer Agatha Christie is—without a doubt, deservedly—one of the legends of detective fiction. Her life has been described and captured in numerous books (as well as her own autobiography from 1977), and pivotal moments from her life have become the subject of a film. The author's extensive bibliography—comprising almost 300 works including stage and radio plays, romantic fiction, a collection of poetry, and a set of poems and short stories for children—is documented in several encyclopaedias (which include, among other things, lists and character profiles, as well as film, television, and theatre adaptations). The secrets of her creative process have most recently been revealed in detail in 'Agatha Christie's Secret Notebooks', published in 2009, and 'Agatha Christie's Murder in the Making' (2012), two books by John Curran, who meticulously studied 73 volumes of the author's handwritten notes. All of Agatha Christie's detective novels are published again and again all over the world, and their intelligent, precisely crafted, and, last but not least, thrilling stories continue to captivate millions of readers to this day.
