A postmodernist vision of Franz Kafka' s unfinished novel The Unknown.
Karel Rossman, a young Czech, is coming to America at the beginning of the 20th century, a land of great ups and downs. Uncle Jakob, who is considered the richest man here, accepts him as his own son on the condition of Charles' s absolute subordination.
However, in harsh conditions, so far removed from idyllic Europe, the young man fails, and is therefore strongly and unexpectedly condemned by his uncle.
America thus sets its second face for him - he becomes an outcast without a future. The hero finds a way out of a difficult situation with the help of an eternally drunk naval fireman on the way to distant Oklahoma alongside the good waitress Tereza.
