All their lies
The audiobook The Lies They Tell, by author Tuvia Tenenbom, translated by David Weiner. Read by Miroslav Hanuš, directed by Ondřej Černý.
He's as funny as Borat, as smart as Woody Allen, and as persistent as Michael Moore. That's Tuvia Tenenbom. Following success in the book markets of Israel and Germany, where his books were a revelation and became bestsellers, Czech readers now have the opportunity to get to know the phenomenal Tuvia Tenenbom.
The Israeli-American journalist, writer, and playwright travelled the length and breadth of America, speaking to hundreds of people, from politicians to the homeless, from oil tycoons to activists, from Native Americans to black people, from Jews to white supremacists. He asks them clever and seemingly naive questions to provoke them – which he often succeeds in doing – and find out what they really think. He then pieces together a picture that is an extraordinarily witty and, at the same time, alarming report on the state of American society today. If there is one thing Tuvia Tenenbom is not, it is politically correct.
His book is full of amusing dialogues and insightful observations. But behind all the humour, there are often surprising and cruel truths we would rather not know. After reading this book, you will no longer wonder why Donald Trump won in the USA. Tenenbom is neither a leftist nor a rightist; he simply wants to know the truth. And so he irritates absolutely everyone.
TUVIA TENENBOM
He was born in Israel into a rabbi's family. At a young age, however, he moved to the USA and settled in New York. It was there that he also began writing plays. He is a theatre director, playwright, author, journalist, essayist, and the founding artistic director of the Jewish Theatre of New York. The French newspaper Le Monde called him the founder of a new form of Jewish theatre. He holds several academic degrees in mathematics, computer science, and drama. He also completed rabbinical studies in Jerusalem. In addition, he is also involved in journalism. He contributes to the German weekly Die Zeit, the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, and the Israeli daily Yedioth Ahronoth.
