Alexandra Berkova: Magorie

Before Alexandra Berková's novel Magorie was awarded the Egon Hostovský Prize in 1991, director Josef Henke made a dramatic composition based on it with music by Emil Viklický. In a fanciful parable about the ground under a flat stone, the author has created a metaphor for life in totalitarianism. In Magoria, which was already circulating almost as a samizdat in copies before 1989, she tried her hand at interesting formal construction and literariness, both of which she later retreated from, especially in her television scripts.
