Alchemy of secrets

The Alchemy of Secrets audiobook, written by Stephanie Garber, narrated by Dana Černá. Folklore 517: Local Tales and Urban Legends is taught by a mysterious woman everyone simply calls the Professor. Most students think her stories are made up, but Holland St. James has always believed that magic and spells really exist. When she manages to track down a local legend, the Timekeeper, who can supposedly predict the day and hour of a person's death, Holland's excitement knows no bounds. But there's a catch: the Timekeeper informs her she will die at midnight the next day unless she can find an ancient rarity – the Alchemist's Heart. As the clock ticks relentlessly on, Holland delves deeper and deeper into the magical world hidden in the very heart of Los Angeles, until her path crosses with a captivating stranger. Holland has mixed feelings about him, but he claims her sister sent him to protect her. Together, they search for clues and explore legends that bring them closer to the Alchemist's Heart, and Holland slowly begins to realise that everyone in this intoxicating new world is lying to her, including the mysterious stranger. And if she can't figure out who to trust, not even the Alchemist's Heart itself can save her.
