Abdominal sonography of the gallbladder and biliary tract
The aim of this book is to describe, in the form of case studies, the role of abdominal sonography as the basic imaging modality in the diagnosis of diseases of the gallbladder and biliary tract.
Case studies are presented that are both common, where abdominal sonography is the only diagnostically sufficient imaging method, and complex, where sonography only raises suspicion or a differential diagnosis. There are also rare case studies in which abdominal sonography (despite findings on other imaging methods), together with the interpretation of the clinical context, is precisely the examination that leads to the correct diagnosis and the direction of treatment.
Emphasis is placed on proper analysis of the medical history, physical examination, and laboratory results. The case studies are clearly documented with photographs. Each case study is supplemented by a theoretical part containing sonographic and clinical notes or differential diagnostic principles. A special chapter is devoted to sonographic artefacts, which are very common in the gallbladder and biliary tree area.
The author of the book is an internist, gastroenterologist, sonographer and lecturer at the 2nd Faculty of Medicine, Charles University, with almost 30 years of experience in hospital care for patients with abdominal (and other) diseases. A book with a similar focus is currently missing in Czech literature. It is suitable for the postgraduate education of gastroenterologists, internists, general practitioners and radiologists.
