A publisher from Paris

London: Young Lizzie finally decides to leave her husband and walk away from a loveless marriage. However, the year is 1921 and her act not only leads to her expulsion from the " decently" society", but also the severance of relations with her own mother, who immediately disowns her rebellious daughter. Lizzie leaves for Paris with her former tutor, Professor Moore, and tries to build a new life. He soon makes friends within the city' s vibrant literary scene, especially among the patrons of the Shakespeare and Company bookstore - personalities who fascinate Lizzie with their openness, their courage to love who they want, and especially their talent. And while Lizzie works for bookstore owner Sylvia Beach on a transcription of a controversial James Joyce novel, her dream of independence begins to take on new shapes.

Tabey Koenig' s historical novel takes readers to the dancing city of lights in the years after World War I, when Paris was the most important cultural center in the world. Here Lizzie meets some famous authors such as Gertrude Stein, Ernest Hemingway, and Francis and Zelda Fitzgerald, who were among the most prominent writers of this generation.
A historical novel filled with the atmosphere of the 1920s is a tribute to books and bookstores.

It is published in the translation by Miloslava Hnízdilová.
