A letter to Cyrano

In her opening text, titled 'A Letter to Cyrano', Zuzana Maléřová welcomes us into the world of her new book, a collection of unique letters. The first section contains what she calls 'Cyrano letters', or 'letters on behalf of others', which she wrote for many years in someone else's name. In her words, a daughter speaks to her mother, a wife to her husband, a friend to a friend, a brother to his sister.

The letters are addressed to personalities such as Táňa Fischerová, Naďa Konvalinková, Jana Synková, Nina Divíšková, Ivan Trojan, Ladislav Frej, Věra Galatíková, Jaroslav Dušek and others. The second part consists of unsent letters written by the author herself to those closest to her: her family, her friends, and even those who have already passed away – Ota Pavel, Libuše Geprtová, Stella Zázvorková.

These texts offer a powerful glimpse into the author's personal life, but through her father, mother, husband, and children, they delve into the experiences of us all. The third chapter presents letters in verse – a poetic finale to the emotional and dramatic stories of the previous sections.

This beautifully designed book also features photographic illustrations from Vlado Bohdan's 'Shadow Plays' cycle.
