A day in the life of Abed Salama
In 2012, a bus carrying children from an Arab nursery school crashed in occupied Jerusalem. Six of them burned to death, one teacher also died, and many were injured. The author has meticulously mapped not only the immediate circumstances of the accident and the specific lives of those involved and the children's relatives, but also the broader historical and socio-political context. In particular, he details the extremely difficult living conditions of Palestinians under Israeli occupation, the conditions of segregation and all kinds of bureaucratic restrictions, and the situation of permanent conflict and mutual hatred. The book was awarded the PULITZER PRIZE for Non-Fiction in 2024.
