A castle in the middle of the world
What could a Jewish sugar planter of European stature, Ferdinand Bloch-Bauer, originally from Mladá Boleslav, have in common with a rural schoolteacher von Osten from the island of Fehmarn in the Schleswig-Holstein waters? Or the painter Gustav Klimt with the police spy Kurt Nowak from Jihlava? And especially the famous Lady in Gold with the widow of the Prague executioner, Lina Heydrich? The fates of these and many other characters are linked by an inconspicuous castle in Central Bohemia. Today it is dilapidated, but one of the great stories of the dramatic 20th century took place here.
