This oil is prized for the presence of ellagic acid – a phenolic antioxidant commonly found in plant phytonutrients. Research shows that ellagic acid can help the skin in various ways, from minimising inflammation after UV exposure to brightening the skin and removing pigmentation. It soothes and softens the skin, has anti-inflammatory effects and helps reduce damage caused by UV exposure. It contains a high proportion of omega-3 fatty acids, linoleic acid (omega-6), alpha-linolenic acid and oleic acid. It is also rich in gamma-tocopherols (vitamin E) and antioxidants, and is a very good source of vitamins A, B and C. The vitamin C content in the oil is almost the same as in citrus fruits like lemons.
