Responsive Hammer Lite keyboard action
The CX102's Responsive Hammer Lite keyboard action provides a natural and expressive touch that helps players develop strength and perfect their technique, with graded hammer-weighted keys that are very similar to the feel of playing an acoustic piano. Featuring precise stroke detection and cushioning technologies from premium Kawai instruments, the RHL action ensures smooth, responsive playability while minimising mechanical noise for quieter, more enjoyable playing at home.
Acoustic piano key weighting
Just as acoustic pianos use heavier bass hammers and lighter treble hammers, the RH Lite keyboard uses different hammer weights that are appropriately graded for each playing range. Such details provide greater stability during fortissimo passages while maintaining delicate control over pianissimo to satisfy the demands of even the most discerning pianists.
The sound of a Shigeru Kawai SK-EX concert grand piano
Shigeru Kawai instruments, which have earned a reputation as Japan's premier pianos, are prized for their excellent tonal clarity and exceptional dynamic range. The CX102 reproduces the beautiful tone of the flagship Shigeru Kawai SK-EX concert grand piano. The peerless instrument is hand-built by Master Piano Artisans at the Shigeru Kawai Piano Research Laboratory in Ryuyo, Japan, and is widely regarded as one of the finest instruments in its class.
Harmonic imaging technology
The CX102 digital piano delivers the rich, resonant sound of the renowned Shigeru Kawai SK-EX concert grand piano in an accessible and affordable form. Using Kawai's advanced Harmonic Imaging technology, the CX102 reproduces the tonal depth and warmth of the original acoustic piano, providing smooth, expressive variations in volume and character from a delicate pianissimo to a thundering fortissimo.
Realistic reverberation
The CX102's powerful digital effects engine further enhances the instrument's core sounds, applying additional reverberation effects that simulate the acoustic environment of a recital room, small hall, or concert hall, breathing life into performances. The result is a rich, vibrant piano sound that delivers impressive realism and authenticity.
Impressive speaker system (with Low Volume Balance function)
The CX102's stereo speaker system delivers an impressive 22W of power, enough to fill a medium-sized room with the beautiful sounds of a Shigeru Kawai grand piano. In addition, when playing through the speakers at a reduced volume (so as not to disturb family members), the CX102's Low Volume Balance feature intelligently adjusts the keyboard touch and piano tone characteristics, enabling pianissimo passages to be played smoothly and more naturally.
The variety of a digital piano
The CX102 also offers a wide range of useful digital features to support learning and creativity, complementing the authentic keyboard touch and inspiring grand piano sound. Players can try out different instrument sounds, record and play back their performances, or enjoy the built-in lesson songs, all easily controlled from a discreet cheek-block control panel. In addition, Bluetooth MIDI and USB-MIDI connectivity make it easy to connect to computers, tablets and a variety of music apps for enhanced practice and entertainment.
Integrated Bluetooth connectivity and the PianoRemote app
In addition to a USB-MIDI port for connecting to computers, the CX102 also boasts integrated Bluetooth MIDI technology, which lets the digital piano communicate with supported smart devices wirelessly. Once paired with a phone or tablet, CX102 owners can easily control the instrument or view sheet music for the built-in lesson songs using the dedicated PianoRemote and PiaBookPlayer apps. The instrument's functionality can also be expanded with a wide range of third-party educational, gaming, and notation apps, all without the need for additional adaptors or cables.
PianoRemote and PiaBookPlayer apps
The CX102 is compatible with the latest Kawai PianoRemote app for iOS and supported Android devices. The app connects to the piano via the integrated Bluetooth MIDI feature, letting you easily change sounds, adjust settings, and enjoy the built-in music content through an attractive user interface. The CX102 is also compatible with Kawai's PiaBookPlayer score viewer app, which lets you view the sheet music for classical etudes and various other pieces on a smartphone or tablet via a wireless Bluetooth connection. The PiaBookPlayer app includes the notated scores for over 370 pieces, and also supports hands-free page turning using the piano's configurable pedals.
Additional sounds and playing modes
In addition to its realistic acoustic piano sounds, the CX102 also offers a selection of other instrument sounds, including electric pianos, organs, harpsichord, vibraphone, and strings. The Dual and Split modes let you play two different voices together, such as an acoustic piano and a string orchestra or a bass guitar, creating a more complex sound that inspires even greater musical creativity.
Built-in lesson function
With the CN301's practical lesson function, aspiring pianists can learn to play the piano with classical etudes by Czerny, Chopin, Burgmüller, Beyer, Bach, and Beethoven, or with a collection of pieces from the popular Alfred's Basic, Adult, and Premier course books. With an emphasis on acoustic piano realism, the CN301 also offers traditional finger exercises, scales, and warm-up exercises, and includes companion books for all classical scores to further aid piano development.
Simple, attractive cabinet design
The simple yet attractive CX102 cabinet features gently curved side arms and sturdy toe blocks for greater stability. The piano is equipped with a sliding key cover to protect the keyboard from dust, and a wide music rest that can be folded flat when needed. At just over 40 centimetres deep, the CX102 is also a relatively compact instrument, making it well-suited for flats and other tight spaces.
Superb headphone experience
The CX102's Spatial Headphone Sound (SHS) technology enhances the depth and realism of the instrument's sound when listening through headphones. The player can select one of three different acoustic presets that adjust the spatial positioning of the sound, while also helping to reduce auditory fatigue when using headphones for extended periods. In addition, the CX102 lets players select from a variety of headphone types (Open, Semi-open, Closed, In-Ear, Canal, etc.) for an optimised listening experience.
Grand Feel pedal system
The Kawai Grand Feel pedal system further solidifies the CX102's position as one of the most realistic digital pianos in its price range. This feature replicates the functionality, position, and individual weighting of the damper, soft, and sostenuto pedals of a Shigeru Kawai SK-EX concert grand piano. The PianoRemote app includes parameters for adjusting the half-pedal point and soft pedal depth, further enhancing the CX102's authentic acoustic piano sound.
