Use high quality paste
What's equally important is having a great heat-conducting paste. For us we recommend Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut or Kryonaut.
The right chassis is omega
The selected processor deserves the best! Differences in voltage intensity: the frequency of various base plates is in tens of millivolts. After years of experience, we recommend higher models from the ASUS Republic of Gamers. We test our processors on the ASUS MAXIMUS IX APEX .
The right juice
A good power supply is crucial! If anything matters, it's how good and stable the motherboard gets. Our select processors are tested on the Seasonic Prime 1200w Platinum. It's not so much about the total capacity, but about the quality and overall design of the power supply. Personally, we recommend the Seasonic power supply for overclocking, especially the newest Prime series.
Our tips for reaching guaranteed clocking
- In UEFI, use core voltage settings in manual mode where power is always more effective than offset or adaptive modes.
- In ASUSdesek LLC level 6, use the External Digi + Power Control to prevent unwanted drops in voltages that could interfere with overclocking stability.
- Kaby Lake processors are very temperature sensitive, so use minimal-quality AiO water cooling at 240mm and a high-quality, heat-conductive paste. The stronger the cooling, the better ther results. This is related to the well-tuned airflow in your case; if the airflow is not optimal, the cooler will not work as it should.
- A good power supply that can deliver stable and accurate voltage is the foundation for everything. We recommend Seasonic power supplies from the Prime series.
- Clocking select processors requires at least basic experience and insight on the issue. Keep in mind that this is not a plug and play affair. Refining the overclocked system into stable mode requires patience and hard work.
- All processors were tested for at least 1 hour in ASUS's demanding RealBench stress test, which also uses AVX instructions.
Final Recommendation
In order to achieve guaranteed clocking, it is necessary to follow our tips exactly or to get as close as possible. Keep in mind that the wrong combination of components might cause the guaranteed frequency to fail. Even the slightest differences in the motherboards can create tens of millivolts, which goes hand in hand with the increase in processor temperature and cooling, and the overall result.
