Tag Team

Short, tense matches full of strategic decisions with Tag Team
Tag Team is designed primarily for players who enjoy direct confrontation, tactical decision-making, and short but intense matches. The game is designed for 2 players, with each player controlling a pair of fighters who form a team. The recommended age is 10 and up, as the game uses clear icons, effects, and requires the ability to plan several steps ahead. You should set aside about 15 minutes for one game, which makes it an ideal choice for a quick duel or a series of rematches. Thanks to its brisk pace, it's suitable both as an opener for a game night and as a filler between longer games.

What's the game about
The basic principle of Tag Team is the combination of two gameplay approaches that usually appear separately. The autobattler part means that after the preparation phase, you have no way to intervene in the course of the fight. Once the cards are revealed, you watch as the individual effects are resolved and the plan turns into reality. The very moment when you can't change anything creates significant tension and gives each round a clear rhythm. The deckbuilding component appears here in an unexpected form. During the game, you gradually expand your combat deck, but you never shuffle it.

Every decision affects the course of future rounds
The order of the cards is preserved, and each addition of a new card is also a decision about when it will come into play in future rounds. This approach emphasises timing, predicting your opponent's moves, and planning an entire sequence of moves, not just immediate reactions. Each player starts with two fighters, each bringing their own playstyle, abilities, and special rules. Over the course of the rounds, you reveal cards, resolve attacks, blocks, healing, and direct damage, and after each round, you strengthen your deck with new cards from the so-called build deck. The game ends when one of the teams suffers a K.O., which can happen in various ways depending on the specific fighters.

A tactical game focused on planning and timing
It offers an unusual combination of autobattler and deckbuilding that forces you to plan entire sequences of rounds ahead and think about the development of the game as an interconnected whole. The fixed order of cards in the deck creates a strong emphasis on timing and gives every decision a long-term impact that will be felt even several rounds later. Each fighter has their own playstyle, special rules, and unique mechanics, thanks to which each combination of a pair plays differently and requires a different approach. The short game time allows for quick rematches and naturally encourages experimentation with different pairs of fighters and different strategies. The team principle of two fighters per player introduces interesting synergies and forces you to think not only about your own cards but also about how to complement your partner.

Dynamic battles full of synergies and clever moves
Clear iconography and easy-to-read cards allow for smooth gameplay without unnecessary delays, so you can focus purely on tactics. The high variability of fighter combinations ensures that no two games are the same and the game remains fresh over the long term. The tension arising from the combat phase, when you can no longer change anything, gives each card reveal a strong moment of anticipation and uncertainty. The game is an ideal choice for players looking for a direct duel without lengthy preparation, complex administration, and long rule explanations. Thanks to its simple foundation and thoughtful depth, it will appeal to both more experienced players and those who want a fast-paced duel game with clear rules.

History and creators of the game
Tag Team was originally released in 2024 by the publisher Scorpion Masqué. The game's author is Yannick Leduc, a Canadian game designer who has long been involved in card and combat games with an emphasis on direct player interaction. The illustrations were done by Alexandre Roche, a Canadian illustrator, whose style gives the individual fighters a distinct personality and good readability during the game. The Czech localisation will be created in 2026 and will bring the complete rules and a fighter's guide in Czech.
