Discover the interesting world of wild animals

With the Schleich Hippo figure you can discover the interesting world of wild animals. What kind of hippo is he? The hippopotamus is the heaviest species of artiodactyl and the third heaviest terrestrial animal. The adult male measures up to 360 cm, reaches a height of 165 cm at the withers and weighs over three tonnes. The eyes, ears and nostrils are located very high on the head, which is ideal for life in the water. The nostrils and ears are fitted with flaps and the hippo closes them when submerged. The teeth are very developed. The incisors in the lower jaw are peg-like and point obliquely forward, the canines are transformed into tusks, which, especially in males, reach impressive dimensions. They protrude from the gums to a length of about 35 cm and can measure up to 70 cm in total. Hippos use their stiff, leathery lips to tear food; they only use their teeth to dig up the roots of aquatic plants. Despite its thickness, hippo skin is very sensitive and cracks easily in dry conditions. The saying about the hippopotamus skin as a symbol of insensitivity is therefore not true.
