King of May lettuce is a traditional and popular variety of field lettuce that can be grown in spring from both planting and direct sowing. This variety of lettuce is characterised by medium-sized, round, well-closed heads with light green leaves which, at low temperatures, are edged with shades of red at the edges of the upper leaves. King of May 1 is well resistant to flushing into flower. Lettuce is a fresh, tender vegetable rich in vitamins A, B, C and D and trace elements (potassium, calcium, iron). It is suitable as a stand-alone side dish or for fresh vegetable salads.

Requirements:
The plant likes a sunny location and adequate regular watering. It is easy on soil, prefers well-drained soils rich in organic matter.
Sowing and germination:
Lettuce is sown gradually and has a very short growing period of 8-10 weeks, of which 4-6 weeks is spent pre-growing the seedlings. The lettuce is sown from February onwards, preferably at a temperature of 20°C. Then transplant into planters. Pre-grown seedlings are planted in greenhouses and polytunnels from March. The seed can be sown from March to July and is planted in rows about 30 cm apart.
