Its practicality lies mainly in the number of smaller exterior pockets, which can be used to store smaller items (keys, documents, wallets) and medium-sized items such as pencil cases or snack boxes. The side pockets, for example, can fit a  beverage bottle.

The chest strap and padded shoulder straps are adjustable. The back is padded and so is the handle, which facilitates comfortable carrying. The hip strap can be removed.
