Air Purifiers

As the name suggests, air purifiers are used to remove various kinds of impurities from indoor air. Choosing the right type depends on the type of impurities you want to remove and the size of the room where the device is to be used. The key parameters to keep in mind are the filtration type and the purifier’s performance.

Filtration type

choose depending on the type of impurities and overall maintenance
- HEPA filter
  - captures solid particles, bacteria, viruses, fungi, allergens
  - almost 100% percent efficient in removing dust particles
  - often equipped with a carbon filter that absorbs odours (e.g. from cigarettes)
  - should be changed on a regular basis
- Electrostatic filter
  - captures solid particles, bacteria, viruses, fungi, allergens
  - almost 100% percent efficient in removing dust particles
  - cannot absorb odours
  - quiet operation
  - washable
- Water filter
  - dust and microbes settle in a water tank
  - 50 - 70% dust collection efficiency
  - acts as a humidifier
  - requires regular cleaning and maintenance (anti-scaling)
  - not suitable for allergy sufferers
- Photocatalytic filter
  - removes toxic substances in addition to viruses and bacteria
  - removes impurities using UV radiation
  - may create large amounts of ozone

air purifiers are sometimes equipped with an ioniser, which raises air filtration effectiveness

Purifier output

should be appropriate for the size of the room in which you are planning to use it
the purifier should be able to filter all the air in the room about 2.5 times per hour, or 4 times if you are buying it for an allergy sufferer
the mathematical formula for calculating the airflow output (m³/h) is the following: floor area (m²⁾ × room height (m) × 2.5 (4)

Noise levels

inherently connected to the overall output; the more powerful the machine, the more noise it makes
particularly important if you want to leave it on overnight, max. 30 db

Features

Power control - allows you to reduce its output at night, making it whisper-quiet when you need it
Detection of impurities - sensors monitor the air quality, allowing the purifier to adjust its output depending on the current conditions
Other features: timer, remote control, change filter indicator lights

Air Purifiers - additional info

An air purifier is essentially a collection of filters that filter air drawn from the room. The purified air is subsequently released back. Due to their ability to remove a variety of impurities from indoor air and prevent people from inhaling harmful substances, air purifiers are popular in homes, offices, schools, and in health care facilities. Like humidifiers, air purifiers have a favourable effect on human health.

How does an air purifier work?

Air purifiers remove all airborne particles and — depending on the type — are capable of detecting bacteria, viruses and other harmful impurities. This is accomplished using a set of filters, including the HEPA filter. The ioniser helps by releasing negative ions that attach themselves to dust particles, pollen, smoke, and pet allergens. The ioniser assists the filter in capturing it all and has an overall positive impact on our health.

Air purifier performance

Before buying an air purifier, we recommended to consider its performance and the size of the room where you are planning to use it. Less powerful purifiers will do fine in small rooms, but larger spaces generally require considerably more power. Bionaire is one of the brands known for their quality product range. Their purifiers offer excellent reliability and a stylish modern design.
