Black+Blum Filter binchotan with stabilising wire Eau Good, 1pc

Black+Blum Filter binchotan with stabilising wire Eau Good, 1pc
BLACK+BLUM Binchotan activated charcoal stick for the treatment of drinking tap water. With stabilising wire to protect the binchotan from falling out during pouring. Pack of 1 piece. For more than 300 years, Binchotan charcoal has been used to treat drinking water in Japan. Binchotan softens water, adds beneficial minerals, balances pH and absorbs unwanted tastes and odors. Binchotan is named after its creator, BinchuyaChozaemon, who innovated the existing technology in Tanabe (in the 17th century Edo period, Wakayama province) by exposing charcoal to high temperatures of up to 1000°C in a mill at the end of a long low-temperature firing process. The resulting product - binchotan - is almost 100% carbon. It is heavier than ordinary charcoal, has a smooth hard surface and rings metallically on impact (it is also used in the manufacture of musical instruments). After its removal from the mylar, its surface was covered with a powder made of a mixture of earth, sand and ash, which gave it its characteristic white colour and thus its second well-known name - hakutan - "white coal".

Binchotan purifies and improves the quality of ordinary tap water
Binchotan has excellent absorption capabilities. The porous surface is formed by small cavities oriented in many directions. The cavity area of one gram of binchotan is over 500 square metres. Absorption occurs by attracting positively charged impurity ions and trapping them in porous structures. During the whole process, beneficial minerals (calcium, iron, magnesium) are released from the binchotan back into the water. This improves its taste and positive health effect. The effect of binchotan becomes apparent after 1 hour. The ideal binchotan filtration time is 8 hours. So put the container with water and binchotan stick in the fridge overnight and taste it in the morning! If you fill a bottle or carafe with binchotan once a day, the effect of activated charcoal lasts for 3 months. Then boil the stick in water for 10 minutes and let it dry in the sun.

Porous surface still works as a deodorant after six months
You can use binchotan to remove odours in cat litter, laundry baskets, diaper pails or shoes. If you place a used binchotan in a cupboard, it will absorb airborne moisture. The supplied binchotans are already washed and ready to use immediately. Never clean the Binchotan with detergent or soap. Take Binchotan only with clean tap water. Do not use in flavoured drinks or juices. When cleaning bottles and carafes, always remove the binchotan. The boiling water removes the absorbed impurities from the binchotan. You can safely swallow any small particles and charcoal fragments floating in the water (activated charcoal tablets are prescribed to treat diarrhea, indigestion and bloating). The Japanese Binchotan was the inspiration for Dan Black and Martin Blum of the London-based design studio BLACK+BLUM, which produces products inspired by Japanese culture (bento). For their brand, they designed a collection of bottles and decanters with a French-English name - Eau Good. Their "Good Water" uses traditional Japanese binchotan filtration from their own certified production.

Using Black+Blum Filter Binchotan Eau Good
The supplied BLACK+BLUM binchotan sticks are produced in sizes suitable for use in Eau Good bottles. But you can use them with any bottle, carafe or jug. In the case of glass containers, first fill the container with tap water and carefully insert the binchotan into the full container. Never throw the binchotan from a height (the stick is heavy and hard and could damage the glass). First, insert the stick into the plastic (tritan) Eau Good bottles (squeeze the container so that the binchotan is firmly seated in the bottle) and then pour in the water. For ease of use, binchotans are also supplied with a stabilizing stainless steel wire that ensures the binchotan is firmly seated in any container without the risk of it falling out when spilling water.
