Graduated Neutral Density Filter B+W F-Pro 701 MRC is made of highly transparent Schott glass. The grey gradient is added to one half of the filter by the same thin-layer technology as anti-reflection coatings. It is achieved by vapour deposition in vacuum coating plants. The filter glass is mounted in the F-PRO brass mount, which ensures the filter's smooth rotation. The B+W 701 MRC filter has a transmittance of 50% (1 f-stop) at the darkest point.
Graduated neutral density filters are almost indispensable for landscape photography, where they balance the variances in brightness. The F-Pro 701 is a perfect neutral density filter for avoiding overexposure when photographing architecture, interiors or winter landscapes. This can happen mostly with digital sensors which do not have such exposure flexibility as film negatives. The MRC coating provides high light transmission (more than 99%) and prevents ghost images caused by the back reflection from the image sensor. The last coating protects the filter from scratching and makes it easy to clean.
