SIXTOL Refractometer for Measuring Water Content in Honey ATC 25

This high-quality optical honey refractometer with automatic temperature compensation is designed for the easy, quick and accurate measurement of the water content in honey within a range of 13% – 25% with a resolution of 0.1%. A refractometer is an instrument for measuring the refractive index of a light beam, which can be used to determine the composition of liquid mixtures or the purity of substances. The refractometer is used wherever it is necessary to determine the quality of honey, or more specifically, its water content. Using the honey refractometer is very simple. Just place a drop of honey on the slanted optical prism of the device, close the prism cover (the honey will spread out), look through the eyepiece towards a light source, focus if necessary, and check the scale. You can immediately read the water content value in the honey in the field of view, based on the boundary between the illuminated and unilluminated parts.

Calibration

To calibrate, proceed as follows. Clean the blue surface of the refractometer's prism, preferably with distilled water and an optical cloth. Open the lid of the refractometer and keep it open throughout the process. Using the pipette, place 1 drop of calibration solution onto the blue prism of the refractometer (approximately in the centre). Then, gently place the small prism onto the blue surface of the refractometer on the drop of calibration solution, approximately in the centre, so that the drop of solution spreads evenly underneath it without any dry spots or bubbles. The solution must not be anywhere other than under the calibration prism. Wait for about 30 seconds. You should now see the upper part of the viewing field as blue and the lower part as light. The boundary between them should pass through the reference line indicated on the calibration solution. If it does not, carefully adjust the line to the point using the adjustment screw and the screwdriver.
