The game time is not as long as it was in The Witcher I, nevertheless a thick story filled with action is to be expected. A complex, realistic and refined storyline touches topics that are rarely seen in other RPGs. It is narrated in a style that is comprehensible and very engaging to contemporary players. The player investigates the murders of the kings of the Northern kingdoms and follows Geralt's personal motives namely the search for his own destiny. He gradually discovers how his life is controlled by different powers and what situations they push him into.
After helping to suppress the rebellion initiated by the Order of the Flying Rose and saving Foltest's life, Geralt becomes the central figure of political unrest in the kingdom of Temeria. Geralt still protects the king and helps him in his efforts to bring peace to the empire. The last outpost of the Order falls into the hands of the royal army. The rebels are left with only one castle that belongs to the baroness La Valette who declared her lands to be independent of the king. It has been a month since the attempted murder of the king that took place after the king's army had reached the fortifications of the baroness' castle, preparing for the final battle. Meanwhile, Geralt, who was busy dealing with Foltest, could not pursue his personal quest: To find out who the mysterious killer that attempted to murder the king is, a killer, who ever so much resembles other witchers. Casting light upon this mystery would bring answers to many questions...
