Sparkfun Block is an extension for the Edison electronic kit, made by Intel, the number one producer of desktop processors. It is an ultra-small computer platform that can be used for both entertaining technological experiments and actual design projects. The Intel Edison Breakout Board Kit is powered by an Intel Atom dual-core processor with integrated Wi-Fi, Bluetooth interface, 1GB RAM, 4GB SSD storage, and all this is carried by a 3.5 x 2.5cm unit.
Edison continues where Intel Arduino left off, so once you have learnt how to design electronic circuits with Arduino, and its performance is no longer enough for you, you can take a step further - and this is the point where Intel Edison awaits you.
This extension brings you a console block, which is the easiest way to power and communicate with your electronic building kit. This block can provide up to 4V and 1.5A of current to get Edison through the VSYS line, and it can power the other expansion boards that you may decide to add to your stack. In combination with the FTDI 213X, you can create USB-to-serial communication, which will be set to the 1.8V voltage that is required by Intel Edison.
