SparkFun Block is an extension for the electronic kit Edison from Intel, the processor manufacturer. It is an ultra small computer platform that caters to both entertaining technological experiments and real design work. The Intel Edison Breakout Board Kit is powered by an Intel Atom dual core processor with integrated Wi-Fi, Bluetooth interface, 1GB RAM, 4GB SSD storage, all built on a 3.5 x 2.5cm unit.
Edison continues where Intel Arduino ends, so when you want to learn how to design electronic circuits with Arduino, and its performance stops you going further, Intel Edison can take you further.
This Edison expansion block brings the ADC function to the I2C bus. The ADS1015 ADC delivers a 12 bit delta sigma converter with an analogue multiplexer. It can be set up as a four channel device, or one or two channel differential devices.
The switches on the ADC block allow I2C slave selection in four different ways, indicating that you add up to four of these cards to Edison. A sampling rate of 2.2kHz is not suitable for audio recording, but will be quite adequate for operating control applications.
