Optimised Focus and Telephoto Zoom

The Sony 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 GM OSS is the first of its kind with a combination of double linear motor and DDSSM (Direct Drive SSM) drive. The focusing mechanism is exceptionally fast and precise, which is further supported by the feedback of positional sensors. You can also adjust the smoothness of the zoom using torque control. Lower torque means fast zooming, while higher torque produces a slower, more gradual zoom effect. Using these controls, you can truly tailor your lens to your exact needs.

Natural Rendering with ED and Super ED

Axial chromatic defects often occur at long focal lengths, which has a negative impact on image resolution. That's why the lens is equipped with two ED glass elements and one Super ED element, which are included in the optical assembly and effectively suppress these undesirable defects. The result is an extraordinary image clarity with high resolution throughout the zoom range. The lens also features an anti-glare nano layer which reduces reflections caused by backlighting and other adverse lighting conditions.
