The SIGMA 150-600 mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM SPORTS is dustproof, waterproof, and freezeproof. It is designed for professional use with many user-adjustable options. It consists of 24 optical elements in 16 groups, with FLD and SLD lenses. The SLD lens is made of low-dispersion glass and compensates for image scaling and chromatic aberration, resulting in better optical qualities of the lens. The FLD lens is made of glass with ultra-low light scattering and transmits more light than ELD or SLD lenses. This ensures colour correction, sharper pictures, and improved optical quality.

The "HSM" in its name indicates a lens with an ultrasonic motor drive, which offers quiet operation and fast autofocus; "DG" indicates lenses designed for digital SLR cameras, whereas "OS" simply stands for "optical stabilisation".
