Self-propelled child

Dítě na vlastní pohon aneb Proč svěřit svým potomkům více kontroly nad životem

Parenting is not easy - we love our children and do what we can for them. But does the success of the offspring really depend on how much effort we devote to their school results and leisure activities?
Dítě na vlastní pohon vás přesvědčí, že trend přehnané péče, tzv. helicopter parenting is demonstrably harmful. And that the best thing you can give your children is a sense of control over your life. Try it out, it's easier than you think.
William Stixrud and Ned Johnson have 60 years of experience with demotivated, anxious and depressed children. They know all your parenting troubles and have a solution for them. This is evidenced not only by research on brain function and behavioral therapy discoveries, but especially by the success they have achieved in their clients after changing parents' attitudes. With empathy, benevolence, and a deep understanding of your concerns, she explains that, as with adults, the most important precondition for correct emotional and psychological processes is a sense of control: the child must feel that they can influence their lives.
However, this does not mean that you should give up all your authority. In this parental relief book, you will learn how to stop being a boss and become a trustworthy consultant and loving support to your child, and how to build a strong internal motivation and stress-resistant psyche for your children. It is a long journey, but it is worth a trip: at the end of it is family well-being and happiness.

NATIONAL PUBLIC RADIO

"A self - propelled child is a compelling, revolutionary and wise book. It will give parents the courage to approach education differently while providing them with the tools and methods they need. It shows how to reduce stress for yourself and your children, how to support inner motivation, mental resistance and healthy development in children and how to make them successful in life. The main message - that we should trust our children and give them more control over their lives - should be taken to heart by all parents. "
