Used to increase capacity with DS118 -> replaced 6TB IronWolf. In addition to double the space: -) and really quieter operation. But only for capacities of 12TB and higher, see product sheet on the WD website. Already on the second day, the data is crunchy and with the fan in the NAS set to “quiet“, the temperature did not exceed 39 degrees.

Until now I had max. 8TB drives, I tried to buy a 16TB Toshiba (I have the 8TB versions and they are fine), but the headers knocked incredibly. I returned the disc and according to BREADWAY's review and. s., Praha 9 - Horní Počernice I tried this drive in the 12TB variant and really, it is both fast (continuous writing over 190 MB/s) and completely silent - I don't even know it is in full load. I recommend it. But you really need to take this capacity, I can't vouch for others: )

Large capacity.
Absolutely silent (recording data, running video at the same time) and the HDD is inaudible compared to the Seagate IronWolf 12TB (horribly noisy read head).
There aren't any.

I have 8x12TB and 2x14TB WD Red Plus drives in my multimedia server in my living room at home, the drives are extremely quiet (beware, the smaller capacities of WD Red Plus are orders of magnitude noisier) and are not audible at all. Disk speed is standard (around 190-210 MB/s). I had to claim one 14TB drive on the first day (immediately replaced with a new one without a problem), it did not pass the initial S. M. A. R. T. and it wouldn't format. But that happens sometimes, a defective piece. Overall great satisfaction especially with the quietness of operation. I recommend it.

It's quieter than the 8TB and 10TB variants, but... (in the minuses)
Price
According to the specification and in real life, it is slightly quieter than the Red Plus 8 and 10TB, but compared to the more expensive Red PRO it vibrates strongly and the motor whistles with an unpleasant high-frequency tone.
Purchased 5 units at different times (each according to the label made at different times), but they all squeak and vibrate strongly in the same way.
If you don't have NAS in your basement, the whistling will drive you crazy.
