The WD Elements Portable 4TB black external drive has lasted me 1 year, 7 months and 22 days. All this time the disk was lying on the table near the laptop.
First, I saw the reading error. SMART showed 197 (C5) current number of pending sectors.
Theoretically, this could be a software bug.
So I checked the HDDScan 4.1 drive in safe mode.
After about 6,000,000 (from 7813969920) I saw a continuous array of bad sectors.
I will now buy a WD Gold 4TB. I want to transfer it in a contiguous array (while preserving the directory tree structure).
I recommend it for transferring large files or for less important storage.
