Our 10-year-old steam iron is on its last legs; I’d expected that, after all this time, older technology would have become the norm. However, it seems that, to justify the higher price of the standard model, they also produce a genuinely low-cost version. I’m reviewing this from the perspective of someone who spends a few hours a month ironing.
the laundry has been ironed
The iron takes an awfully long time to start releasing steam and continues to ‘steam’ long after the steam function has been switched off
As well as steam, it also releases a large amount of water, which makes the laundry quite wet
the iron is quite heavy
A plastic ‘protrusion’ on the generator is designed to hold the iron in place, but you cannot use it simply to set the iron down whilst preparing the laundry. In that case, you’ll place the iron on that protrusion, which isn’t stable and the iron could easily fall off
In general, a steam generator is better than an iron from the point of view of a man who irons once every two years. But the higher version that left after about 4 years was more refined. It's working.
It's working as it should.
Temperature control compared to previous version
The stand does not have an attachment point at the tip like our previous version. The whole iron cannot be carried with one hand, it must be held with two hands.
