The seat/silver thing connecting the seat to the back look (on the photo in the shop) like metal, but they are solid plastic. After assembling the chair, my impression is that these things could last for a while, but it's on the edge. There was no assembly instruction in the package, which unnecessarily prolonged the assembly process and built up some hormones and dirty words. Watch out for the bolting down of the seat and backplate: 1) first screw them off the spider/cross, then put them on the telescopic rod. 2) You can easily get a screw going into the screw hole at the wrong angle and then you pull the screw off. Eventually I managed to screw it back together correctly.
