I mainly bought these headphones to test over-ear headphones with ANC. The noise cancellation works, and as a cheaper model, they make sense. They are lightweight, sound fine and are suitable for spoken word. For me, however, the clamshell design ran into a personal problem: After my jaw surgery, the pressure from my braces started to press against my jaws and make my teeth ache. It’s not a fault with the headphones themselves, but it’s crucial for the way I’m currently using them. I also wasn’t too keen on the button controls on the headphones themselves. I only tried the headphones briefly, so it’s possible I might get used to them, but my first impression wasn’t exactly a comfortable one. You need to get a good feel for the volume controls, the centre button and the separate ANC button. It might be fine for some people, but I found it less intuitive and felt it would require more dexterity or a bit more getting used to. Summary:
As a budget option for ANC in-ear headphones, they make sense. They’re lightweight, the ANC works, and the sound quality is fine for listening to speech. For me personally, however, it wasn’t suitable because of the pressure on my jaws following the operation, and I also didn’t get on with the physical button controls straight away. It may just be a matter of habit, but in my case, it was comfort that made the difference.

The soft leather earcups, although I prefer textile so well shield the surrounding noise. But not so that you can't hear anything at all - that's fine with me, I want to hear the doorbell, the knock on the door, etc. The headphones are decent but I definitely recommend installing the Sony Sound Connect app on your phone and tweaking the equalizer and updating the firmware there. Beware on both Windows and Linux the headset will switch to headset profile with poor sound quality after waking up from power save mode. This can be solved by disabling power save for the Bluetooth adapter.

I also own the previous generation of WH-CH700N headphones (i.e. 2 generations older). They are still playing today without any problems. I just replaced the battery. I use them in the garden at work - they are definitely treated more roughly than these, which I only have by my computer. The disappointment with the new generation is enormous. If you get them, be sure never to put them on the table. It always has to go on the headphone stand.

When placed on the table, there is a risk of a manufacturing defect - i.e. you must use a headphone stand.

I purchased the earphones on 6/7/2025 and today they are already cracked (left earphone). I was expecting a quality workmanship, but unfortunately this was not confirmed.
