I compared with Bang&Olufsen Beoplay HX and Jabra Evolve2 75 MS Stereo. These headphones suited me best.
ANC (active noise cancellation) noticeably better than Bang & Olufsen Beoplay HX
Sits well on the head and ears
ANC works even when connected via 3.5mm jack
The sound quality of the microphone is good. On the other hand, they can hear me almost as well as when using a good quality wire headset. Compared to the Jabra Evolve2 75, this is a huge improvement.
Long battery life. Even with ANC on, it lasts 24 hours.
I work with two phones at the same time. If a video is playing from one phone and a call comes in on the other phone, then the call takes priority and the sound is switched to the ringing phone.
The ergonomics of the buttons are better than the Beoplay HX.
ANC and passthrough can be switched easily with one button.
They can temporarily turn on the passthrough and mute the sound by a gesture - placing your hand on the right earpiece.
The ears are sweating in them
They don't work when charging, they turn off when you connect the USB-C cable
The ear cuffs are made of goatskin
They don't have a button or gesture to mute the microphone
They don't have a dongle for UC
The volume control on the headphones is done via the touchpad and is quite clumsy - for each small step of volume change it is necessary to move across the entire earpiece. If I want to significantly mute or turn down the sound, it's like flipping through a newspaper.
When connected via 3.5mm jack, Bluetooth is turned off

After the XM4s, which I immediately returned because they sounded like yogurt cups, this is a welcome big change for the better. With proper use of EQ (admittedly aggressive), a relatively balanced, very pleasant sound can be achieved. Surprisingly decent spaciousness for closed headphones. A truly universal model suitable for almost everything except sports.

the headphones started turning off on their own a few weeks after purchase - first they buzzed, then they turned off. It' s been four weeks at the Sony service where no one talks to you. For me, premium product with bad service.
half of the new functions do not work reliably, such as automatic shutdown, automatic music pause - I ended up turning everything off
they cannot be folded like previous generations, thus also a huge packaging
Waste of money for me and I don' t recommend buying - I still use the original 3rd generation that I also have, which seems to me to be 90% the same and significantly cheaper

the headset remembers its bluetooth name and retains its name when connected to another device
they only support connecting to one device at a time, but you can easily switch to another device where they were previously connected, selecting it in the Bluetooth menu on the new device (no need to turn it off on the other)
Unlike previous models, here during a telephone conversation, the partner hears the speaker well
some write that folding the headphones is worse here than in earlier models, but I like it more here, because it is advisable to immediately put them pillows down on the table
When you remove the headphones, it pauses automatically during playback, and playback resumes when you put it on. I haven' t seen it on previous models.

I was moving from XM2 to XM5, it' s a big leap forward in every way. So at the beginning I was surprised that the ANC didn' t seem to work, until then I tuned it in the application and it works exactly according to my ideas. Having read the negative reviews below, I feel like the gentlemen didn' t play much with it. The headphones are unnecessarily perfectly adaptive, so if you don' t get it, you behave according to the surroundings.

Sony doesn' t know what for me anymore. I' m an audiophile and I went back to the store after the first day. For me, it is better to pay extra in this price category for the “few“ remaining money and buy Airpods max than these headphones. Sony just didn' t succeed in this, and I think that after a while it will be known on the market as well. 2 stars for the fact that the throughput regime has at least improved since the last harvest.
