Very nice, well-made headphones, exceptionally comfortable. If you listen to mainstream pop, rap or hip-hop, you'll probably be happy. It feels to me like they're tuned primarily for these genres. Plus, they have excellent ANC, so they're perfect for travelling or a noisy office. However, they aren't suitable at all for listening to bands with electric guitars and a lot of drums; heavy metal tracks sound like a tinny racket. After many years with the small WF-1000XM4, the WH-1000XM4C are a total disappointment sound-wise.
Fits perfectly, very comfortable
Excellent ANC, you will appreciate it at home, in the office and especially when travelling
Folding design, great for travelling, plus they feel significantly more robust compared to the XM5
Finally a 10-band equaliser (in the Sony app) for those who cannot/do not want to use Wavelet etc.
Suitable for pop, rap, hip-hop, maybe electro. Strong, booming bass, perhaps even too much. It tries to create a strong impression of spaciousness and an airy, pulsating sound; it feels a bit artificial, but for these genres, why not, I suppose. Great for films.
Beautiful travel case
Battery life
Minimal instrument separation
Completely unsuitable for genres like hard rock and heavy metal: the guitars aren't engaging, the drums sound ridiculous, and everything muddles together into an unpleasant mess
Completely unsuitable for poorly mastered recordings, typically from the loudness war era. The sound signature of the headphones brings out any flaws in the recordings
It still lacks support for Bluetooth LE and the modern LC3 codec (or at least LHDC) with minimal latency. Unfortunately, the MediaTek MT2811AA doesn't support these codecs, so it's not great for gaming
