A small and lightweight lens, better suited for smaller Sony bodies or if you're after a lighter weight. It is very small, so it can be "thrown" into the bag almost always. You can certainly do F 2.5 aperture separation with it, but it is already very similar to what a 2.8 zoom can do, so if you already have some 2.8 zoom, consider getting "duplicate" glass. For me it was about weight and 40 mm seemed to me the most practical focal length of the lightest Sony glass options.
