The sensor doesn't communicate two-way, it just broadcasts like a beacon (Bluetooth advertising in the open BTHome format). Roughly every minute (for me, it was 60–85s), it sends the temperature, humidity, and battery status in percent, and it doesn't wait to see if anything receives it. To get the data into an app or the cloud, you need a gateway, typically a Shelly device with Bluetooth – in my case, a Shelly Plug. Because BTHome is an open standard, the sensor can also be read by Home Assistant or an ESP32 with ESPHome, as long as you don't enable encryption. The range is weaker; I get a signal from the outdoor sensor through a wall at −76 to −85 dBm. I have the sensor outside in a ventilated cover and for three days I compared it with a weather station with a Sensirion SHT41 sensor, which is right next to it. I also verified that one against the nearest ČHMÚ station. The temperature measurement is excellent. At night, the two sensors differ by hundredths of a degree; during the day, the Shelly is about 0.3–0.5°C warmer, but that's more likely due to the cover being heated by the sun. The humidity is worse. At 40–60%, the Shelly shows about 10% less than the reference, at 80% about 8% less, and at 90–95% about 5% less. The difference isn't constant, so a simple offset in the app isn't enough. When I set it according to the medium values, the sensor showed over 100% at night. I had to do the recalculation myself (a straight line, roughly 0.89 × measured value + 15), then it's accurate to within ±1–2%. On top of that, the sensor has significant hysteresis. After a night with over 90% humidity, the difference compared to the reference sensor shrank from 11% down to 3%, and it took several hours, sometimes until the afternoon, to return to normal. Therefore, when drying, the sensor is off by 2–4% compared to when it's getting damper at the same value. For a flat where humidity stays between 40 and 60%, it's sufficient with a correction. I wouldn't recommend it as an outdoor humidity sensor or for places where accuracy matters (cellar, monitoring for mould) without your own calibration. For temperature, definitely. It's not for professional humidity measurement. For the price, however, the sensor is very compact, measures temperature accurately and reliably, and after your own correction, the humidity reading is also reasonably usable. Anyone who mainly wants temperature and an approximate humidity reading for their smart home will be satisfied.
The temperature is accurate. At night, it only differs from the SHT41 reference sensor by 0.0–0.1°C.
After pairing, it works locally via Bluetooth (BTHome) with a Shelly Plug as a gateway. The data can be read without the cloud via the local API.
Small, cheap, the CR2032 battery lasts a long time.
The data is easy to read via the socket's local API.
The humidity reading is significantly lower, and not by a constant value.
After a damp night, the humidity returns to the correct values slowly, it takes hours.
It only reports the humidity in whole percentages.
Weaker Bluetooth signal, often −80 to −90 dBm through a wall.
